Madden 18 Wish-List

Every year, Electonic Arts releases an NFL Licensed Football Game. The Latest edition, Madden 17, was released on August 16th, 2016. I have owned the game since September, and I have played it religiously ever since. As a lifelong fan of the Madden series, I have seen the game evolved. I have seen the good years and the bad years. Madden 17 wasn't a bad game by any means. Electronic Arts made several improvements on the previous year's addition. However, there are some things that I would like EA to improve still. Here are3 things that are a MUST for Madden 18.

1. Single-Player Career Mode

Come on Madden. You are way the curve in this regard. MLB: The Show, has a dynamic career mode. NBA 2K has a dynamic career mode. FIFA has a dynamic career mode. All major sports franchises have a career mode for a single player except for Madden. It would be so simple to implement. Give us the chance to go through the combine like the older games! Have us get drafted! You could learn a lot from the other sports game franchises!

2. Bring back Madden Moments

Some of my favorite memories from the older madden games were the Madden Moments. The basic premise was that you recreate late game situations that occurred that week in real life. These were a lot of fun and need to come back.

3. Create-a-team/Deeper Relocation

Allow us to create our team from scratch, like the old Madden games. We should be able to customize our uniforms, stadiums, and playbooks!

4. Fix the Clock Stoppage

One big issue I've seen in the game this year is that the clock doesn't always stop when you get out of bounds. This is a huge issue and should be a simple fix.

These are my top 4 things I would like to see in the next Madden. Lemme know what you guys think in the comments!

This week's topic is the 2017 NFL Combine. This event is stretched out through a three day span consisting of collegiate athletes across the nation to compete to be drafted in this years draft. This day is special for these athletes because this is one of the tools they get to use for their chances in the NFL. Some of these athletes perform great numbers and some perform average numbers. This event includes several agility drills, a 40-yrd dash, a vertical jump and a broad jump. These numbers give NFL coaches and scouts ways to study players and decide who they want to draft this season.
This is my topic this week because three of our Washburn football players are currently training for the draft. Hoping to get their name called, these players are Cody Heiman, Zach Franklin, and Michael Miller. All three were great players for us! Being a Chiefs fan, I love the NFL draft, also because I am a college football player dreaming of being drafted to an NFL team one day. Anyways... I think what I'm trying to say is why does the NFL make it so hard and nerve-racking to make it in the NFL. These guys go through years of training and practice, yeah most of them don't even think of making it to the next level after college but the ones who have the talent and ability have to go through so much work and basically have to prove themselves to these coaches and scouts. Is the dream of playing in the NFL worth all this effort and time just to fall short and not get drafted at all? Less than four percent of all high school athletes go to college to play sports, 1.6 percent of college athletes make it to professional sports.
I love the NFL draft, I love watching athletes compete, I have no problem with anything towards the process of getting to the NFL. What do you guys think? Do you think it should be easier to get drafted or should every athlete get their shot on an NFL team? I'd love to hear what you guys think! Please comment your thoughts!

Blog #3 Should Athletes Make Millions?

It's Sunday blog day everyone! This week I thought that we should talk about how much money should professional athletes be awarded with contract extensions and reaching agreements on long term or short term contracts. Currently, my favorite player in the NFL is the starting Free Safety for the Kansas City Chiefs. Eric Berry has earned his right to be named one of the NFL's best defensive players. When a team is winning and the players are having great seasons and the fans are cheering and not focusing on the next year or the next few years. People and organizations don't enjoy counting the days until a particular player's contract comes to an end and new negotiations need to begin. For the 2017 season, Eric Berry will be a free agent, unless the Chiefs can find a way to agree upon a long term deal with Berry. Also, the Chiefs could set him as their franchise tag, making Berry the franchise tag for the second year in a row. Being a franchise tag take your last years salary and adds on 15-20% for the following season. Berry has already taken to the public that he doesn't want to play as the franchise tag next season. Sources say that Berry is asking for 75 million dollars over a long term deal. Thats A LOT of money, most offensive tackles or quarterbacks don't make that much money. Therefor, this could be a break up or make up year for the Chiefs All-Pro Safety. I really hope the two find a way to agree to a long term deal. Anyways, do you guys believe that professional athletes are asking for or are being paid too much money? I honestly think that some athletes are paid way to much money and more than they deserve. For example, LeBron James is the greatest basketball player in the NBA but he isn't the most paid player in the NBA. Some athletes make more than they deserve and that is the only problem that I have with this topic. I want to know what you guys have to say! Feel free to comment and speak your mind! Thanks for reading.

Blog Post #3 Brass Instruments

Unlike stringed instruments, brass instruments were not near as popular.  One reason for this being the difficulty involved in playing these rather primitive instruments.  Later developments made them much more accessible to musical participants.  Music written during this time period was rather complex so playing any Baroque piece on top of one of these already difficult instruments would have been nearly impossible.
What is known as the “natural trumpet” became increasingly popular throughout the Baroque era.  Before the Baroque period it was used for military purposes such as announcing a retreat or breaking up camp.  Girolamo Fantini among others was one of the first that recognized this instrument’s capabilities in orchestral settings by changing the embouchure used.  By doing this he could add two notes therefore producing an entire harmonic scale.   Over the following years this instrument fell out of popularity because of its need for highly skilled musicians.  The invention of the keyed trumpet around 1815 was the final straw of the natural trumpet’s demise.
The natural horn, an extremely popular instrument of this time, has a similar story to the natural trumpet.  It also ended its commission during the early 1800's due to the introduction of the “keyed” version.  This instrument had several notes missing in its range.  To compensate, a musician had to use “bending” or “hand stopping” to produce the missing notes.  “Bending” is changing embouchure slightly to lower or raise a pitch by just a fraction.  “Hand stopping” is inserting a cup shaped hand into the bell.  This changes the pitch as well as the timbre.  Pretty complicated methods…

Although brass instruments were not always the most popular choice during the Baroque Period, this era was again the foundation for the modern orchestra by introducing two crucial orchestral instruments: the trumpet and horn.

Isaac Clark Introduction

My name is Isaac Clark, I was born and raised in Bakersfield California. I am 21 years old and attended a Community College in Monterey Bay where I played 2 years of basketball. My major is communications with an emphasis in Mass Media. Communications was something that I felt I would be good at because I am very social and talkative. With the emphasis in mass media I wouldn’t mind being on tv to broadcast a sports event.  Most all of my hobbies have to do with sports I currently play basketball although I have played years of soccer, football, and ran track. I chose Washburn for a couple of reasons, Washburn is a very high academic school and a degree from here means a lot in the business world. The other reason is because I play basketball and I received a scholarship here.  After I graduate I plan to try to play professional basketball in an overseas league. It has been my dream since I was young to play professional basketball somewhere. Growing up like every kid I had aspirations of playing in the NBA, and as much as I would love to do that I feel trying to play overseas would suit me. The thought of playing a game for money sounded pretty good to me.

Introduction: Alex

Hello class, my name is Alex Ruecker and I'm a Mass Media major with an emphasis in Film and Video and a minor in English. I'm very interested in the film industry, so I plan integrate into Hollywood eventually after I graduate. I am always watching movies in search of the craziest, most mind-blowing movie there is, and eventually would like to someday create my own movies that baffle people as well as making the viewer have to think twice about what they saw.

I was born in Topeka Kansas and have been here my whole life except for a year of living in Iowa. I went to Royal Valley and graduated with the same kids the I grew up with, so life has always been very typical for me. I was involved in bowling, basketball, tennis, and band. I was also a members of the Forensics team and served in the Public Speaking division.

I am a second-semester Junior here at Washburn and cannot believe how fast time has past me. I am very excited to start this semester and do all I can to learn about various aspects of the media world. I desire to learn everything I can about the film industry and eventually begin creating movies and generating ideas.
I'm ready to finish these last two years of my college career and transition into the real world so I can begin my life.

Hey! I'm Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah Miller. This is a very common name so I have actually met four people with the exact same name as me. I grew up in a very small town called Plainville and I only had 30 people in my graduating class. As you can imagine this means that I knew everybody in my school because we had all grown up together. Plainville is about three and a half hours from Topeka, and that was one of the main factors in coming to Washburn. I wanted some distance from the town where I knew everyone. I also fell in love the atmosphere and small class sizes. My family is a bit non-traditional. My mom raised me and my two sisters by herself. My sisters are a lot younger than me, my middle sister is 11 and my youngest sister is 3.
I am a Mass Media major, my emphasis as of now is film and video but I am thinking of switching to Contemporary Journalism. I am double minoring in English (Writing Emphasis) and Women and Gender Studies. I have always been a huge nerd and I absolutely love Harry Potter. My hobbies include reading, writing, watching TV, and politics. I was almost a political science major but I decided that it was more of a hobby for me than a career. Back home I have two furbabies: a dog and cat. We rescued our dog, Rags, from a shelter about six years ago and we got our cat, Eileen, from a farm about a year ago. She couldn't survive very well in the wild because she was born with only three legs so we took her home. They are now best friends who do everything together.
I am really looking forward to the rest of this class and this semester!

Intro Colton Allen

Hello class, my name is Colton Allen and I'm a mass media major with an emphasis in public relations with a minor in psychology. I'm very interested in sales and so that is what I plan to do when I graduate, either technology sales, insurance sales, or pharmaceutical sales. I love talking to people and I get along with most people so I think that I would be successful in that field.

I was born in Muskogee Oklahoma and moved to Kansas city in the early stages of my life and have lived here ever since. I went to Shawnee Mission Northwest and absolutely loved it. I'm one of the very few kids that would do my four years over in high school because I enjoyed it that much. I was very involved in high school I played soccer, basketball, and golf, I was also a member of student council all four years and spirit club.

I'm a transfer junior here at Washburn I went to KCKCC my first two years and played golf and I'm continuing my golfing career here at Washburn as well. I have two brothers who both go to school here at Washburn one is a freshman and the other is a senior and they to also play golf for Washburn. I'm super excited for this class because Mass Media is such a big part in our world with social media and technology. I'm really pumped to finish my last two years here at Washburn and then move into the real world and start working.

What's Up My Dudes, I'm Vinyl

Hello friends, My name is Vinyl Anderton, and I'm a Mass Media: Film and Video major. I grew up in Merriam, Kansas, in a house that's backyard is in Shawnee, Kansas. I love dogs, stop-motion, Harry Potter, the Beatles, and Shakespeare. My hobbies include short film work, photography, meeting animals, and dressing up as Bob Ross.

I chose Washburn because it was one of the few schools around us that had a film program and I had hear better things about the one here and not so great things about the one at KU. I also fell in love with the campus and the smaller size of the school. I live in West Hall with 2 other people, currently, but someone could move in if they chose. I'd like to live at the Village next year if I don't become an RA.

As for majoring in Mass Media: Film and Video, I've always really loved film and the work that goes into making a video. I made crappy horror films as a kid and was a part of my high school's advanced film class, which wasn't really advanced, it just meant you helped to make the school's weekly news show. It was a really fun experience to have to produce a 10 - 20 minute product every week that had to incorporate comedy skits, school news, and many other topics.

Eric Watson Intro

Hi, my name is Eric Watson, I am from Lawrence, Ks. Rock Chalk! I'm a Mass Media major with an emphasis in Public Relations. I used to play basketball at Butler Community College, then played one year at Baker University before I transferred to Washburn. I like being able to connect with people and figure out what similarities I share with others. Bringing people together to have a good time is one of my favorite things to do. In my free time I like to stay active by working out and playing basketball for fun.

Introduction - John Sterbenz

Hello, my name is John Sterbenz and I am a Mass Media major here at Washburn.  I was born in Tyler, Texas but was raised here in Topeka. I started out my college at Kansas State, but after much thought I decided to change my major and transfer to Washburn.

I think that I will enjoy Mass Media because I like to think that I'm a creative person.  One thing that I have a passion for is movies. I love all genres of film, but I'd say that sci-fi thrillers are my favorite.  My favorite film of all time is very hard to say, but probably would be Pulp Fiction.

I am looking forward to getting to know people in the class, and am excited to start the semester!

Introduction: Koichi Yoshisaki

Hi, my name is Koichi Yoshisaki. I was born and raised in Japan. In 2014, I entered Washburn University right after I graduated from high school. All of my family is in Japan. My parents are my huge supporters to study in Japan. They take for granted worried about me but allow me find what I would be in Washburn. My hometown called Kanazawa is located in western of Japan. We have hot spring, Japanese female traditional wearing, Kimono and one of top three gardens Kenroku garden. Recently, new bullet train is connected between Kanazawa and Tokyo. It will take about two and half an hour so that you may visit my hometown. In 2020, Japan will hold the biggest event Summer Olympic in Tokyo. You could come and watch on TV.

My hobby is to watch movies. My preference is movie created by other countries. Simply, I watch foreign movies more than Japanese movies. By watching foreign movies, I feel like going traveling in another country or new world from science fictions movies. Hardly to say my favorite movies but one of them is Star Wars. The reason why I like is that the stories influence to people from different ages and even countries. Last winter break I went to San Francisco to be in front of Yoda fountain, Lucasfilm, which created Star Wars series.

I chose to mass media class to acquire knowledge how I could show ideas and receive others. Those may be hint to find my future path. I’m looking forward to working in our class!

Introduction: Mingzhu Zhu

Hello everyone! My name is Mingzhu Zhu. I am a Mass Media major but no emphasis yet.

I am from Foshan, a beautiful and modern city in the southern part of China. I am the only child in my family because of the policy in China. I never went to other cities to study until I came to the U.S.. When I was in high school, I made up my mind to go abroad to broaden my horizon. However, I took the collage entrance exam and I was admitted by Sichuan University. Though it is a great university ranked the top 10 ones in China, I still want to pursue my dream. After graduating from high school, I came to Washburn last year and started my new journey. I love Washburn a lot due to the small size of the class so that I can learn more and know others better. I have great experience with kind people in Topeka. Now I already get accustomed to the life here.

I love traveling. In China, my parents took me to go traveling every year. During my staying in the U.S., I have been to California, Chicago and St. Louis. I like taking a road trip in a new city, which helps me to deeply know the place. I like photography, especially when I am on my way.

I am looking forward to this new semester. Nice to see you all!

Introduction to Myself...

Hello, I am Wesley Tabor and I grew up in Kansas City, KS (Wyandotte County). My interests include watching many sports like football, basketball, and baseball and I am a huge Atlanta Falcons fan. I particularly really enjoy little league baseball (11-13 year old boys) which is broadcasted on ESPN every year around August and It takes place at various locations in North America. I also do a little bit of video gaming every now and again, but not like I once use to growing up. I have recently took on a wonderful passion for travel (both locally and on a bigger scale). I actually plan to go overseas for the first time this Spring break with a class that I am currently enrolled in (Global Communication trip to London, England). In addition, I hold a very busy schedule during the week like most college students. I volunteer my time at SLI, which is a business that helps with people with physical and mental dissabilities and I am also a current member of Alpha Lamba Delta, which happens to be a honor society on campus. I had decided to come to Washburn because of the amazing helpful resources that the University provides to its students. I also was leaning toward Washburn because of the amazing connection that is present between the University and the Topeka community that surrounds campus. I have always had a passion for writing and telling stories and so that is why I had decided to Major in Journalism and minor in Communication Studies.

Here is a memory of me and my girlfriend attending a Royals game in which I caught a baseball that eventually ended up being a anniversary gift to her.

I have eleven brothers and sisters, although, most of them are my step siblings. Before I began my journey at Washburn, I originally wanted to be an animator. I love art and drawing in general. As soon as I started my first semester, I changed my decisions drastically.

I am personally very introverted and I do not like to talk very much, but I believe once I get to know the class, I will become much more comfortable. I am definitely excited to see where this year will take me.

Colin Truhe Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Colin Truhe. I was born and raised in Salina, Kansas which is about an hour and fifteen minutes west of Topeka. While growing up in Salina I spent a lot of time at Rolling Hills Zoo. I started volunteering when I was too young to be employed, but after I turned 16 I began working. I have worked in many different areas at the zoo, including general operations and with the education department.
I also love to travel! I have been to 25 states and I have also visited another country. This past summer some friends and I went on a 12-day road trip where we hiked mountains in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. While on this trip we also visited and hiked around the Grand Canyon. Despite being rained on almost every night it was one of the best experiences that I have had since coming to college.
I am currently switching my major from communications to Mass Media with an emphasis in Public Relations. I decided to switch majors because communications was not quite what I expected it to be, and mass media will help to give me more direction as I get closer to graduation. Communications is a broad degree, while Mass Media with an emphasis is more specific.

Stuff about me

Hey what's up my name is Kenyatte Harris my major is communications, but i am going to change it to mass media and then minor in communications. With my degree I plan on being a Global Marketing Manger that way I can travel the world, and also work with athletes across the world.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where I lived with my mother, and two of my older siblings until I was a freshman in High School, then I moved to Kansas City, Mo where I lived with my dad and two younger siblings. I went to Park Hill High School in Kansas City where I played football and ran track.

I love to workout, listen to music, and play Madden on my free time. I came to Washburn because they gave me a scholarship here to play football, and as of now I really like the school all the friends that I've made with my time being here.

Itroduction

Hi, my name is Rachel Eklund and I am originally from Missouri.  I grew up in Springfield until I was ten and then moved to Kansas City- a wonderful place to grow up.  I am a twenty year old pursuing a career in internet marketing.

I have five siblings so life was never boring growing up.  I was also home schooled which inevitably created an inner nerd.  I love activities that work the mind like chess, playing complex Back Fugues (I love Baroque music), and intellectual discussions about anything.

In the past I pursued music as my career of choice.  I have played piano since I was seven.  I was classically trained and always had a thing for Beethoven.  When I entered as a freshman into Washburn my idea was to eventually get a doctorate in musicology.

Previous injuries from practicing piano too rigorously haunted me every day- I was miserable.  Around the beginning of last semester I heard about internet marketing from a friend who is successful in the area.  He has developed a course that I began taking and I loved it. I still miss the thrill of finishing a Beethoven sonata, but I believe this is the new path I should take.  I am looking forward to a new life in the mass media department!

Hi! My name is Jera Richardson, I am currently a Mass Media major with an emphasis in Public Relations, as well as minoring in Business with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. With these degrees I would like to start/create my own hotel chain.

I was grew up in Salina, Kansas and attended Salina Central High school where I graduated with a class of a little over 300 in 2016. Throughout high school I was involved in many sports and activities. I played basketball, tennis, and was captain of the dance team. I was also involved in, Youth Relay for Life, STUCO, Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, and Journalism.

I am loving college so far and am apart of Delta Gamma here at Washburn. My family is a big part of my life. I have 2 younger brothers and a cute Jack Russel named Cassie. My brothers are involved in many sports, so I love to go home and watch them play when I can! I am very excited to see what mass media is all about!

Taryn Reed Introduction

My name is Taryn Reed, I am currently a Business Marketing major with a minor in Mass Media with an emphasis in Creative Advertising.

I was born and raised in a small town in southwest Kansas called Lakin, I graduated with 40 students in my class. I was really involved throughout my high school and I also played three sports since I was in third grade. With that being said I have a passion for sports. When I was younger I wanted to be a sports analysts for ESPN. That dream hasn't completely died yet but I know that I love all the different attributes of marketing and advertising.

Along with sports, I love to travel even though I don't get a lot of opportunities to do so. Above is a picture of me at a Luau on the island of Maui. I also love to cook/bake (or make an attempt to), photography, and shopping (I have a slight obsession)!

I can't wait to see what the coming months have in store.
